Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro: The First Phones with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and HyperOS

Xiaomi has launched its latest flagship smartphones, the Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro, in China on October 26, 2023. These are the first phones to feature the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, which is based on a 4nm process and offers improved performance and efficiency. The phones also come with Xiaomi’s new HyperOS software, which replaces the MIUI interface and is based on Android 14.

Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro Design and Display

The Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro have a similar design to the previous generation, with curved edges and a large square-shaped camera module at the back. The phones are available in four color options: white, black, pink, and green. The Xiaomi 14 Pro also has a special titanium edition with a metal frame.

Both phones feature LTPO OLED displays with up to 2K resolution and 120Hz dynamic refresh rate. The Xiaomi 14 Pro has a larger 6.73-inch screen with a peak brightness of 3000 nits, while the Xiaomi 14 has a 6.6-inch screen with a peak brightness of 1500 nits. Both screens have an in-display fingerprint sensor and a punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera.

Performance and Software

The main highlight of the Xiaomi 14 series is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, which is the first to use the new ARMv9 architecture and offers up to 30% faster CPU performance and up to 70% faster GPU performance than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. The phones also support up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 3.1 storage.

Special Titanium Edition

The phones run on HyperOS, which is Xiaomi’s new operating system that replaces MIUI. HyperOS is based on Android 14 and offers a cleaner and smoother user experience. HyperOS also supports features such as HyperConnect, which allows seamless switching between devices; HyperVision, which enhances the camera quality; and HyperSound, which improves the audio output.

Camera and Battery

The Xiaomi 14 series comes with Leica-branded cameras that offer professional-grade photography. The phones have a triple rear camera setup that consists of a 50MP primary sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 50MP telephoto lens. The cameras support features such as optical image stabilization, laser autofocus, dual-LED flash, HDR10+, and up to 10x optical zoom.

The front-facing camera is also a 50MP sensor that supports features such as face unlock, portrait mode, night mode, and AI beautification. The cameras can record videos in up to 8K resolution at 30fps or in up to 4K resolution at 60fps.

The phones pack a large battery capacity of 4,880mAh that supports fast charging and wireless charging. The Xiaomi 14 Pro supports up to 120W wired charging and up to 50W wireless charging, while the Xiaomi 14 supports up to 67W wired charging and up to 30W wireless charging. The phones also support reverse wireless charging that can charge other devices.

Price and Availability

The Xiaomi 14 series is currently available for pre-order in China and will go on sale on October 31, 2023. The prices of the different variants are as follows:
