The union Civil minister has said that the government of India is exploring the possibility of inviting manufacturers of electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft to set up base in India.

Now the government had planned that technology which is mixed up of Drone and helicopter
technology. It means they are working on vertical take-off and vertical landing aircraft and it will run through electricity so that’s why it names called eVTOL.
Other countries already working on this model, our civil minister informed us that several eVTOL players from Canada and USA were ‘keen on setting up production centers in India.
This model is designed as an aircraft, but it differs from a normal aircraft in that it requires no
runway, and vertically it can take off and land. Its structures and mostly feature relatable to drones. It is called eVTOL aircraft.
What is eVTOL?
By its name, eVTOL is an electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft is one that uses electric power to hover, take off, and land vertically. There are multiple motors for various functions to increase efficiency and to also ensure safety.
There is a vertical motor that thrusts it’s an upward direction, so can fly straight like a helicopter. Along with there are sight motors available which help to fly right to left and left to the right direction.
This is a technology that has grown on account of successes in electric propulsion based on progress in motor, battery, fuel cell, and electronics controller technologies and is also fuelled by the need for new vehicle technology that ensures urban air mobility (UAM).
What is UAM –
Urban air mobility government had planning for long-term distances you cover the distance throw aircraft now short-term distances also you can book an aircraft, it is as you book a taxi from home. In big cities there is big traffic congestion, throw it can control traffic congestion. In upcoming years, we can say vertical take-off and landing can possibly throw an aircraft as the many industries working on this module.
Thus, eVTOL is one of the newer technologies and developments in the aerospace industry. eVOLT technologies defined an independent solution runway for the globe’s transport needs. But this aircraft does not need any runway vertically it can take off and land which is a specialty of this aircraft.
Three waves of aerial revolution.
The eVTOL has been likened to a third wave in an aerial revolution; the first being the advent of commercial flying; and the second, being the age of helicopters. And the third one is the combination of a helicopter and an aircraft whose body is similar to the aircraft but its landing and some features are related to the helicopter.
As we hear about it then we feel excited to see it and we all want to take a ride from this aircraft as it can take off and land vertically, it doesn’t need any runway. And most importantly people can book it like they book a taxi so that they can reach their destination in less time. But just like there are some challenges in everything, similarly, there are challenges in this aircraft too, so let’s understand it.
As the technology so far is a mix of unpiloted and piloted aircraft, this aircraft is a mix of drone and helicopter technology so the drone is unpiloted and the helicopter is piloted aircraft. So there is more sector that needs to focus and the areas in focus include “ crash prevention systems”.
There are also issues such as ensuring safety in case of the power rotor failure. As it electric vehicle so, work through only electricity. Another challenge is Aircraft protection from cyberattacks is another area of focus. As it is totally based on computerized and internet systems so need to protect ourselves from cyber-attacks which are very common in the internet world.
The third area is in navigation and flight safety and the use of technology when operating in difficult terrain, unsafe operating environments, and also bad weather. These are the challenges for an evolt aircraft and there were many more but we focused only on certain ones. The next thing is whether the government and other industries focus on this technology so there are market and market protentional exist in India or not so manufacturing units can be established in India.
eVTOL market potential?
In India there is big market protentional exists, the global market for eVTOL s was put at USD 8.5 million in 2021 and is to grow to USD 30.8 million by 2030. The demand will be on account of green energy and noise-free aircraft cargo-carrying concepts and the need for new modes of transport.
From this will come a revolution in the aviation sector as it has the features of helicopters but there was some limitation of helicopters, only taking off limited cargo which can be possible throw an airplane but needs a runway. But this eVTOL aircraft will run throw electricity and vertically can take off and land, cargo carrying features available and many more.
The concept of advanced air mobility comes in i.e., connecting places through vertical aircraft and thus skipping road travel. Now which drawbacks and some challenges in helicopters and in airplanes are not done a short distance, eVTOL will overcome those challenges in the aviation sector.
EVTOL will overcome those challenges in the aviation sector. Which helicopters and airplanes have not overcome and how has this worked in highly congested cities that’s the major question.
