ONDC

How government body ONDC is the best game changer for online food delivery?

In big cities, we usually use food delivery apps like Swiggy and Zomato to get tempting food delivered from our favorite restaurants to our doorstep.

If we have food carving, then our favorite food reaches us within minutes. Until now, the food delivery tech space was dominated by Zomato and Swiggy. And they have a neck-to-neck competition and offers.

But now the government has taken care of some points and they have developed a delivery platform where any vendor can register themselves and deliver their food and item to the customer’s place.

However, here another question arose as to why the government needed to create an ONDC platform-

As we usually see Big Tech E-commerce websites like Amazon, Flipkart, Zomato or Swiggy, etc. They have a huge network across India, but their onboarding and selling commission fee is very high which the seller needs to pay, resulting in the seller inflating the food price and the buyer becoming biased to pay a higher rate.

Although these e-commerce websites have delivered food or any product to customers, those products do not belong to them. There is a seller who is selling their product on these platforms. Seller only uses the platform but the small seller who wants to deliver their product using the online platform is not able to pay such high commission charges, due to they could not able to join the digital online platform.

With this, even a small business can sell its product to the consumer and convert its offline shop into an online one.

What is ONDC?

ONDC stands for Open Network for Digital Commerce. It is a private non-profit industry of the Government of India to develop open e-commerce. Established by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) of the Government of India to develop open e-commerce.

This is a government-backed platform that lets restaurants sell food directly to consumers without the need for a third party.

It also charges less than half of the commissions charged by Swiggy and Zomato, which range between 18% and 25%, enabling restaurants and food chains to better price their offerings. ONDC can be a real challenge to the duopoly in food delivery.

However, it is clear that ONDC would take time to evolve and sort out its disadvantages compared to incumbent platforms. Now restaurants sell food directly to consumers without any third party (Swiggy or Zomato).

ONDC is a government platform which is a non-profit organization, so here the seller does not need to pay any kind of additional commission fee that other technical e-commerce companies charged.

Just the seller delivers his food to the consumer. So, the logistics services are also handled by the seller. Similarly, on ONDC sellers can register their kitchen or restaurant into the ONDC platform and consumers can buy through any other e-commerce or payment platform.

How a seller can register on the ONDC platform?

To register on the ONDC network, Sellers need to first identify a comprehensive feature-rich ONDC seller app like Mystore and register on the platform. Mystore Seller app offers an easy-to-use ONDC India website login to its sellers. The registration process for each platform might differ a little, but the basic documents and processes remain the same.

Here are the basic or prerequisites needed for ONDC seller registration: Business Name, Contact details, GSTIN and Pan number of businesses, Bank details, canceled cheque, agreement on terms of the engagement – payment terms.

ONDC is not any type of particular App, you can order through various app services like- Paytm, my store, magician, craftsvilla or either go to the website from there, select these options, and order the food Let’s search for the product, and will be delivered to enter the location.

How to order through ONDC?

To place an order through ONDC, you can visit the ONDC website or use the Paytm app. Here are the steps to place an order through the Paytm app:

  • Open the Paytm app on your device.
  • Click on the search icon and then search for “ONDC”.
  • Choose between food, grocery, and home decor.

  • Add your address in the top right corner of the app.
  • Proceed to checkout and pay.

As per the reports, it has surpassed the 10,000 daily order mark and is being more widely used by people.

Mostly currently orders usually come from big cities, but later will move to smaller cities as well. This platform will be helpful for small and big enterprises also they have got equal opportunity to participate in the market and deliver their product.
