Apple unveil New M3 chips, iMac, MacBook Pro

Apple held its second virtual event of the year on October 30, dubbed “Scary Fast”, where it unveiled its latest M3 chip family, new iMac computers, and revamped MacBook Pro models. Here are the main highlights from the event.

M3 chip family: Apple’s most powerful silicon yet

M3 Family

Apple kicked off the event by introducing its new M3 chip family, which consists of three variants: the M3, the M3 Pro, and the M3 Max. These chips are based on a 3-nanometer process and feature up to 12 CPU cores, 32 GPU cores, and 64GB of unified memory.

Apple claimed that the M3 chips offer up to 70% faster CPU performance, up to 4x faster GPU performance, and up to 2x faster machine learning performance than the previous generation M2 chips. The M3 chips also support features such as ray tracing, mesh shading, dynamic caching, and variable rate shading for enhanced graphics and gaming.

iMac 2023: A sleek and colorful all-in-one PC

Apple also unveiled its new iMac 2023, a 24-inch all-in-one PC powered by the M3 chip. The iMac 2023 features a slim and elegant design with a 4.5K Retina display, a 1080p FaceTime HD camera, a six-speaker sound system, and a magnetic power connector. The iMac 2023 comes in seven vibrant colors: blue, green, pink, silver, yellow, orange, and purple.

  • The base model with an 8-core CPU, a 7-core GPU, and 8GB of RAM costs Rs. 1,34,900.
  • The mid-range model with a 10-core CPU, an 8-core GPU, and 16GB of RAM costs Rs. 1,74,900.
  • The high-end model with a 12-core CPU, a 10-core GPU, and 24GB of RAM costs Rs. 2,14,900.

MacBook Pro 2023: A powerful and versatile laptop

Apple also refreshed its MacBook Pro lineup with new models featuring the M3 Pro and M3 Max chips. The MacBook Pro 2023 comes in two sizes: 14-inch and 16-inch. Both models feature a Liquid Retina XDR display with mini-LED technology, a notch for the FaceTime camera, a redesigned keyboard with full-size function keys, a Touch ID sensor, and a MagSafe charging port. The MacBook Pro 2023 also brings back some ports that were missing from the previous generation, such as an HDMI port, an SD card slot, and a headphone jack.

  • The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M3 Pro chip, 16GB RAM, and 512GB SSD starts at Rs. 1,99,900.
  • The 16-inch MacBook Pro with M3 Max chip, 32GB RAM, and 1TB SSD starts at Rs. 3,49,900.
